Improving your 9…

Scrum-Half is a difficult position to play. You must marshall your often lumbering pack, organise defences, exploit opportunity and offer pin-point distribution for your 10. Anything less and you’ll be in for a bollicking…from everyone.

Want to make a 9’s life easier? Focus on distribution. If their pass is snappy, the rest will follow once confidence grows.

A simple way of improving a 9’s distribution is to get them to practice on one knee.  For instance, if they want to improve their right-hand passing, the no.9 should sink their right knee, extend out the left leg and whip the pass out straight off the ground.

Its a fun exercise that will reward!

Here is what you get…

  • A sweeping pass straight off the deck.
  • Improved wrist strength and follow through.
  • And, ultimately, quicker ball for the backline.
All from practicing off one knee!
