Paddy O’Brien, NZ ref, IRB law maker and all round sound man gives the world a rundown of the ELV’s as seen from the law-makers perspective. A few quick things to note…
- Paddy’s homely set-up, however quaint, does nothing for the IRB’s image as a professional organisation.
- Why is it so difficult to get proper analysis like this from the IRB?
- Notice how suspiciously exciting all the chosen game clips are.
- He consistently refers to the viewer as, ‘you, the spectator at home will enjoy/understand/find exciting…’ I do not like this.
Although in fairness, Paddy is the first official I’ve listened to who has offered a slight alternative to the IRB party-line…

As a coach and a player I can see merit in that…
