The ELV Scrum +5 Meters Law.

There’s been a lot of shite-talk, moaning and complaining about theses impending Experimental Law Variations. In fact at the moment it is difficult to find people with something positive to say about them.

Two things are certain.

1) In life people are scared of the unknown.

2) The Experimental Law that will ensure both backlines remain 5m behind the scrum is the most exciting development in the game in recent times that will open up games for teams willing to innovate with set plays and running lines.

Anything that makes Shaun Edwards have to work harder at creating new defensive systems is a good thing.

  • The ELVs without the Sanctions changes are not as bad as I first feared. However, I am still wary of the consequences of pulling down of mauls. If it can be done before it gets moving that is one thing, but once it has momentum it retains the potential for danger.

As for the 5m at scrum, I am not convinced that modern rugby needs m0re space.
